Did you know that we have a county and city bus system? Do you use it? Do you wish you could get around without a car or know someone who needs public transportation to get to work, school or services? Do you want to contribute ideas for a schedule and route that better serves youth, seniors and families? Do you have ideas for signage, schedule formats or bus shelters? Come to Getting Around - a youth-led community workshop to improve our public transportation. This workshop is a project of Raising Places - a joint initiative between Kite's Nest and Greater Hudson Promise Neighborhoods to build child-centered communities. This event is being held in collaboration with the Columbia County Department of Social Services.
Come join us for our end-of-year exhibition and celebration! Kite's Nest kids have so much to share -- experience mythological storytelling, mathematical marimbas, microbe embroidery, a biogas barbecue, a rhythm ensemble and a popcorn bar. Learn to make bitcode bracelets, cardboard contraptions, plantable artwork and more. Free and fun for all ages!
In We Make Noise, youth will dive into a week of creative instrument-making and participatory music production. Throughout the week we'll work with guest teaching artists, musicians, recording artists and instrument makers. We'll design and build instruments out of recycled and unexpected objects, creating our own orchestra of original instruments and pop-up music installations. We'll practice writing lyrics, recording beats, and making collaborative music productions. At the end of the week we'll take our orchestra out into Hudson, inviting our neighbors and families to make music with us. What happens when people of all ages come together through creative musical play? What does the city symphony sound like? Everyone is invited to join us for a public performance and musical jam at the end of the week. Save the date: Friday, April 6 at 3pm - location TBD.
