Practicing food freedom at our weekly garden club!
This Spring Roots + Rebels will engage with the theme of Food Sovereignty. Throughout the semester youth will practice growing their favorite food plants, learn to tend them until harvest, and learn about creative ways to increase food access in their communities. We’ll get our hands in the Earth, cook and concoct, share meals together, and deepen our connections with each other and the world around us.
Note: The River City Garden will be under construction this year, so our programs will take place across the street in outdoor learning environments surrounding our greenhouse building and classroom, as well as on field trips to farms and wild spaces.
This program is FREE. If you would like to make a donation to support the program, we suggest $150-$400 per semester.

Getting into the wild to explore nature-based nourishment and craft!
Arts Under the Sun will take the theme of food sovereignty to wild places! This Spring, AUTS will practice Wild Food Sovereignty and learn about the many edible, medicinal, and useful plants growing at and around Kite’s Nest. Youth will learn how to safely identify, honorably harvest, and responsibly prepare wild foods and use wild materials to craft useful objects. We’ll work with our hands and examine how our creative practices can exist in respectful relationship with our surrounding environment.
Our arts-based afterschool and out-of-school-time programs are made possible in part by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
